One of the first programs was the Start-up Visa, a pilot program introduced for entrepreneurs and innovative investors. Unlike the traditional immigrant visa, most business immigration programs require a certain amount of personal wealth or investment funds to qualify.

Québec Immigrant Investor Program

The Québec Immigrant Investor Program is a special type of Canadian business immigration. The Québec government controls the program and the requirements for eligibility. An investor who meets the qualifications is granted a permanent residence card, and his/her accompanying family members will also receive a temporary residence card.

Applicants of the Investor Program must deal with the immigration office in Quebec, which is the Minister of Immigration. The Quebec government oversees the program through an agency known as IQ Immigrant Investisseurs Inc.

To qualify for the Quebec Investor Program, applicants must possess business experience in the field of management or legal practice. They should also have at least $2 million in personal net worth.

Successful applicants will receive a selection certificate from the Quebec immigration authorities and will receive permanent residency in Canada upon completion of a security and health check. After passing these checks, applicants must submit a $1.2 million investment to the government.

This requirement applies to both individuals and couples. If applying in a partnership, it’s best to consult a partner before filing your application.
