Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is hiring a full-time Security Guard to join its team at the Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Generating Stations in Cornwall, ON. Job Responsibilities
As a Security Guard at OPG, you will play a critical role in site protection, access control, and emergency response.
Facility Security & Monitoring
- Perform routine patrols of the generating station to prevent security breaches and identify safety hazards.
- Monitor and operate surveillance cameras, intrusion detection systems, and access control panels.
- Ensure that employees and visitors follow security regulations and safety protocols.
- Report suspicious activities, unauthorized access, or safety concerns to the Senior Manager, Contracts & Stakeholder Relations.
Access Control & Traffic Management
- Regulate on-site vehicle and pedestrian traffic, ensuring compliance with parking and entry policies.
- Conduct identification checks and verify credentials for all individuals entering restricted areas.
- Maintain security logs and records of visitor access, vehicle movements, and incidents.
Incident Response & Investigation
- Record all security-related incidents in the daily occurrence book.
- Conduct inquiries into theft, vandalism, unauthorized access, or security breaches.
- Assist law enforcement and emergency responders in accident investigations and security matters.
- Respond to security alarms and take appropriate action according to established protocols.
Emergency Preparedness & Support
- Participate in emergency response drills and real-life emergency situations as outlined in the Emergency Action Plan.
- Provide first aid and CPR when required.
- Assist fire and police departments in crisis situations.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Maintain detailed records of patrols, incidents, and security breaches.
- Ensure compliance with OPG’s security policies, provincial safety regulations, and emergency protocols.
- Support internal investigations related to security incidents.

Salary, Schedule & Work Conditions
- Pay Rate: $22.38 – $39.59 per hour (based on experience and qualifications).
- Employment Type: Full-time, Regular.
- Location: Cornwall, ON.
- Work Schedule: Rotating day and night shifts.
- Travel Requirement: Up to 10% (as required for security assignments).
Required Qualifications & Skills
To qualify for the Security Guard position at OPG, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Education & Experience
- Mandatory: High school diploma.
- Preferred: A two-year diploma in Law and Security or Police Foundations.
- Alternative: A minimum of five (5) years of security-related experience (law enforcement, military, or similar environment).
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.
- Certified in Standard First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to pass OPG’s Security Clearance process.
